Privacy policy

Last updated: 31 August 2026

This is a one-person photography business, and this policy is written to be read rather than to be impressive. If anything here is unclear, ask me and I will answer plainly.

Who this is

Gary Stasiuk Photography, operating from White Rock and South Surrey, British Columbia. Gary Stasiuk is the person responsible for personal information collected through this site.

What I collect, and when

I only collect information you actively give me. There is no account to create and nothing is bought or sold.

  • When you email me or use a contact link: your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to tell me about your project.
  • When you fill in the Custom Photo Brief form: your email address, your general location, and your answers about your product, how it is made, where it sells, and what you would like photographed. You choose what to write in the open questions, so please do not include anything confidential you would not want in an email.
  • When you become a client: the contact and project details needed to plan, shoot, invoice and deliver the work.
  • Automatically, as you browse: standard website analytics collected by my website host, Squarespace, such as pages visited, approximate region, browser and device type, and how you arrived. This is aggregate traffic information and I do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Why I collect it

  • To write and send you the photo brief you asked for.
  • To answer your enquiry and quote on work.
  • To deliver photography you have commissioned.
  • To send you occasional emails about product and brand photography, but only if you ticked the box asking for them.
  • To understand which pages of the site are useful, in aggregate.

Email, and your consent

Canada's anti-spam legislation governs commercial email, and I follow it. I will only send you marketing email if you expressly asked for it by ticking the consent box, or if we have an existing business relationship that permits it.

Every marketing email includes my identity, a mailing address, and a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and it does not affect anything else: if you have commissioned work, I will still email you about your own project.

Asking for the photo brief does not sign you up for anything on its own. The consent box is separate and it is yours to leave unticked.

Who else sees it

I do not sell, rent or trade personal information. It is shared only with the services needed to actually run this, and only for that purpose:

  • My website and form hosting, which stores what you submit so I can read it.
  • My email service provider, which stores your address and sends what I write.
  • Standard business services such as accounting and payment processing, for clients only.
  • Anyone the law requires, which has not happened and I would expect it never to.

Some of these providers store data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States, which means that information may be subject to the laws of those countries.

How long I keep it

Photo brief submissions and enquiries are kept while there is a reasonable prospect of us working together, and reviewed periodically after that. Client project records are kept as long as needed for the work, for warranty and licensing questions afterwards, and for as long as tax and business records must be retained. If you unsubscribe, your address is kept on a suppression list, which is the only way to be sure you are not emailed again by mistake.

If you want your information deleted, ask and I will delete what I am not required to keep.

Photographs of people

Photography of identifiable people is only used in marketing with the subject's agreement, through a model or property release or an equivalent written permission. If you are in a photograph on this site and you want it taken down, email me and I will remove it.

Security

Information is held in reputable hosted services protected by passwords and, where offered, two-factor authentication. No system is perfect and nobody can promise absolute security, but access is limited to me.

Cookies

This site uses cookies set by Squarespace for basic functionality and traffic measurement. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them may break parts of the site.

Your rights

Under Canadian federal privacy law and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act you can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, withdraw your consent, and ask for it to be deleted where I am not required to keep it. Email me and I will respond within thirty days.

If you are not satisfied with how I have handled a privacy question, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

This site is meant for business owners and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
